cc at my house Thursday the 16th

Carol Faye we have a 100% go for this Thursday since you promised to be there. I am still fighting the powers at school. I got the specs for the computer and found that I can purchase one for less than $300. Rather than having to return to work I have asked to be allowed to replace the computer or pay $300. If I get the OK I will fight no more forever. Prayers welcome.

It’s a Sad Day for AMC College Park

I went to see the $5.00 The Taking of Pelham 123 and saw a sign in the window. It said AMC College Park was closing on July 12th at the end of the day. It saddens me since it’s been so convenient. The man behind the counter said Keresotes Trader’s point killed them. I think AMC was on the downslide before Keresotes opened. I enjoyed the movie. I want to see the Woody Allen movie and Dillinger. It will be hard working a full week after a three day week and a whole weekend but I have lots to look forward to this week, like always. I’m going to exercise at the JCC, I get a free steak at Eddie Merlout, another movie, a birthday lunch, meeting my HS friend and a Fever game. Also Bobby will be home for a couple of days before his last baseball camp. I hope to see all of you Thursday at Susan’s house.

Voting Time

I am sure we have discussed what to do with letters ...  Today when I was at Dave’s Dad’s house I came across letters that he had written to Wilma- several from the months before they were married and a few when he was away for business.  I showed them to him and asked if he wanted to read them ... he said no but thank you.  I asked if he wanted me to read them to him ... he said no.  I did not ask what he wanted me to do with them.  Now that I have already read them ... was that allowed?  Dave has read them also and sees nothing wrong with it - there was nothing negative in them.

Weekend Reports

Oh well ... if only Sunday had been Saturday in terms of weather!  Kevin and Rachel both came in Friday night and we all spent some time at Dave’s Dad.  Our picnic for Saturday was moved from Conner Prairie to our dining room.  Rachel’s friend, Erin Murphy, came over and made the evening more lively. Dave’s dad joined us in a game of Hearts - the only reason we played that instead of euchre.

Rachel ended up taking a garden tour - while at Susan’s to pick up the OT games - she said she can’t wait to go to work on Monday to try them all out!  Then over to Kate’s to take the grass that had fallen out of their trunk when they left Susan’s.

Kevin took Rachel to Climb Time - please don’t let her get hooked!  I had to admire the way Kevin moved - it was very graceful, like ballet.

My Dad was discharged on Sunday.

I was in the middle of making the black raspberry custard recipe that was in this mornings paper when the phone rang.  It was the secretary in the office of St. Edwards (where my Dad is).  She couldn’t reach my sister so she was calling me to let me know that my Dad was being transported to the hospital.  The right side of body was swollen (although how they could tell since he is overweight - so it really must have been).  They called his doctor who said to call 911.  She told me that he wasn’t uncomfortable.  I called one of my brothers who lives in Akron to tell him to go to the hospital and then called my niece, Marie, to get Kitty’s pager number at work.  I am sure that St. Ed’s had tried the pager but it is weird ... all you do is dial the number and then enter your number - their is no prompt or anything.  I paged Kitty who called back and said she had just gotten the message and was on her way.  And so ... 3 hours later I am still waiting - which means I am sure that they don’t know anything and can’t call to update us for some reason.  The black raspberry custard didn’t turn out - never firmed up at all so we have sauce we can pour over ice cream.  No matter how much you expect these calls you are never ready!  I am sure it is some type of congestive heart failure.

This weekend

I’m sorry I’ve missed the last two CC and This coming Thursday I will be going to Munster for a week. I’m sure glad I stay connected through our Website. Thanks again Steve and Carol!! Tonight Elliott and I are going to dinner with Neil and Dora. I hope to go to a movie tomorrow ( I enjoyed the proposal. Good Chick Flick and funny) and tomorrow night is one of three days in a row baseball games. Monday night Elliott and I are going with another couple. Not that I don’t enjoy Elliott’s company but I’m trying to go more with couples. I can’t wait to go to Munster! Since I’m not traveling I’ll be happy going into Chicago, a couple of times, with my family.  Honey’s training classes are going great. She responds well to sit, stay, lay, shake etc. ( she has walked out into the front yard twice, loose, and respnded to sit and stay indtead of running out in the street!!) The big problem is she still gets anxious,( growling and baring teeth) when it is going to rain or sometimes we aren’t sure why she does it ( if it’s a certain sound or something else is bothering her). We do love her and she is very loving 95 % of the time.

Summer arrived

Looks ... and feels as if summer has arrived!  Dave and I drove (he) 5 hours to Akron on Sunday.  It was nice to be there on Father’s Day- got there in time for dinner.  It was just my sister, brother, Dave and me.  My other brother and his daughter are on a week long bike/camping trip called GOBA - Great Ohio Biking Adventure - about 1,000 riders tour Ohio - 50 miles a day.  I then spent Monday afternoon with my Dad while Dave was in a meeting.  Actually - I worked the crossword while he took a nap for 2 hours - the other 2 hours I felt as if he was about to fall asleep.  Then another 5 hour drive to Midland, MI - arriving at 9 pm.  On Tuesday while Dave was in his meeting I took a 30 mile bike ride on a very nice old rail trail.  The trail was wider than the Monon and in much better shape - although it was mostly in the sun.  Then a 5 hour drive home on Tues.  Marie is here - with the dog. The dog may be an every other week event.  She is working 4 day work weeks so will only spend 3 nights with us which should work out fine.  Now to catch up around here.

vacations all

Not much planned for me but sounds like we all will be having delightful summers. I am most likely to be following Carol Fay and taking only local trips or a few days to near places. Having two dogs does complicate plans. Tomorrow they will be getting operations done. They had a cancellation so I didn’t have to wait. Kara has offered to take on my little guys but a trip to Cincinatti would include her and Al. I wonder if Barb’s son will be interested in taking care of two dogs. She had offered one earlier.

Hello from the Pacific Northwest!

Portland has been alot of fun - flew in right next to Mount Hood, quite a sight from above.  Delaney and I have really enjoyed the Chinese Garden, the Japanese Gardens and the humungous Portland Rose Gardens.  Today we went to a huge old fashioned toy store and then across the street to the Portland Central Library. Very nice, but doesn’t hold a candle to ours.  And like last year in Baltimore where Kate and family happened to be there at the same time and on the same water taxi as we were, this trip my nephew Samuel and his girlfriend from Minnesota are here!  We had dinner with them on Wednesday night -  what a coincidence! Steve has been tied up with the conference the entire time so far, but will be done this afternoon around 3pm.  We are planning to celebrate our wedding anniversary at dinner tonight!  Then tomorrow we are renting a car and driving over to the coast, about 2 hours from here, just for the day.  We fly back on Sunday.

weekend update

Kara and I had a super time on Saturday. We found all sorts of essential goodies while saling on Saturday. Then we went and purchased Bill;s birthday present.. a 40 inch tv. Of course that meant furniture moving. Sunday Kara and I went to look at a Stray dog and ended up with two darling pooches. I took them to get rabies shots and heartworm tests. Then shocked bill with two new dogs.  We went to a wedding and now I am pooped. more later.

6/08 Tonight:  the dogs cry whenever I leave the room. It is like having a new baby. I am not leaving them out of the kitchen due to concerns about toileting. They are both small.. a 4 year old buff color 5# poodle and a white 2 year old 10# poodle mixed with possibly a Jack Russel terrier. Both are boys and both need to be fixed. I have appointments for the first of July. They were both strays with no tags and no collars. A woman advertised them on craigslist and Kara and I went to see them Sunday morning and I couldn’t decided which to take. so…2. Kara went with me to the FACE clinic and got them checked for heartworm (negative) and got rabies shots. I have named them jack and JoJo.

cc tonight

Once again I work until 9:00 so I’m not sure if I’ll be at Barb’s house or not. I’ll try. It’s been very busy gearing up for summer reading and getting lots of patrons signing up. I’ve been pretty tired after work. The first dog training class went well. There were about ten families (some had two dogs that they will bring next week) so we will have two classes. The next five weeks is with the dogs.

Friday night I continued celebrating my birthday. A co-worker has the same birthday and is the same age so we had dinner, and a drink. Then I had a walk and a tour with Honey ( Sue I really enjoyed it!) Saturday I ran errands and bought a new bathing suit at Marshalls. Saturday night Elliott and I went to our first Indian’s baseball game. We wre disappointed with the entertainment ( a dancing Bat boy instead of the ZooperStars) but we enjoyed the game. It especially was exciting at the end! It ended in a tie and rain suspension. Today I’m being treated (still celebrating my birthday) to Brunch at Granite City! Did I tell you Matt treat Elliott and me, on my birthday, to dinner at Red Lobster. Neither Matt or Elliott like fish but it was MY BIRTHDAY and that’s really where I wanted to go.

retirement party

We had an end of the year pitch-in today. Celebrated the summer birthdays and had a baby shower. And we had a retirement garden party. I got some awesome gifts for the garden and some awesome gift cards to spend at garden places. Oh my this was exciting. And the funny thing is that I was speechless. It was quite overwhelming really. I will miss the good parts but I surely won’t miss the paperwork and that feeling of impending doom every time there was a bunch due. I will have to return next week to sort out things but one of the teachers bought my bookshelves and several stacks of books. I was thrilled to have a private garage sale and not have to pack stuff up. She just bought all the books I didn’t want to keep. She has two daughters who are new teachers and several young grand children so we both were happy.

For old times sakes Dave and I went to the parade today although we only stayed about 30 minutes or so.  A slight twist from years past - we rode our bikes for a total of 28 miles round trip. I actually got teary eyed thinking of all the parades that Dave’s mom had been too - how much she loved them and this time of year with all the flowers.

I did buy,on Susan’s recommendation, Rozanne Geraniums - I may have put them in too much shade, if so I’ll move them next year.  I did also plant zinnias - there are quite a few seeds in a packet!

And this is only Saturday!
