Farewell Tour

We have started our Farewell Indy Tour…a year of doing things we have thought of doing for the past 40 years but never did - although Dave’s work schedule will put a crimp in that plan…like the S’more Festival on the Circle yesterday.
We have put the first payment on the lot and they are drawing up the plans with the changes we have made - adding 4 feet to the back of the house, moving a wall, adding a wall, moving a room, etc…
Next step is to look at the plan with the sales manager, he then submits it to the builder, we then meet with both of them - then they get the permit to start building while we…pick out door knobs - and counters, floor, cabinets, design the kitchen etc…Sounds as if we won’t have much time for our Farewell Indy - we will be in Cincy doing all this!
Hope to see everyone on the 15th.

Thank you Susan!

A very nice evening at Susan’s….wow, so much new information!  Congrats to Kate on purchasing a most grand and gorgeous home in Phoenix!  It will be enjoyed for many years!  Also to Maureen on the pretty much certain purchase of a lot and a new home which will be built on it in Cincinnati!  Fresh and new and wonderful homes for you both!!  Susan, lots to think about if you stay or if you go….I have the sense you will end up staying put in Indianapolis for the foreseeable future…  Then huge congrats to Barb for the new grandchild on the way down in Texas!  You are a wonderful Grandma I am sure, and this new one will bring so much joy!!

I am glad to say that Steve is improving more and more each day - he drove for the first time today in 5 weeks!  Our landscaping project begins next week - everything new all across the front, and a paver front entry too.  The back deck, new sidewalks etc will begin after the 15th of August.

We missed you Carol Fay….hope to see you next time at Barb’s - possibly on July 31st.

Going to celebrate Ella’s birthday tomorrow after church.  She will be 15 on Monday the 23rd!!

July already….

Happy July to you all…  hope everyone is staying cool and enjoying summertime!

Steve is progressing, can get up out of his chair nearly on his own now…but still so many things he cannot do for himself.  I am pretty much housebound for the time being…it was so great to have Matthew here for the first 2 weeks.  Only about 5 more weeks to go till Steve’s hip should be fully functional again!

Susan, how are things going with your daughters assisting with the project??  Some things are easy to be rid of, and other things not so much….

What did you find out about the housing situation in Maureen?  If you build, do you have to choose from an existing floor plan?

Kate…any new possibilities in Phoenix?

Looking forward to seeing everyone in another week!

Hip hip hooray

Took Steve to his 2 week followup this morning - all looked good - got the 30+ staples removed, xrayed the hip (wow, that is quite a contraption they nailed in there haha!)  and consulted with Dr. Hupfer.  It’s been a hard 2 weeks, lots of pain and discomfort, totally helpless….needing help for everything!  Will be using the walker for at least 2 more weeks, then a cane for 2-4 more. Thankful that Matthew was here for 12 days after surgery…he flew back to Florida yesterday.

No plans for the 4th, may have the Fishers fam here for supper…

Can’t Wait for Saturday

Elliott and I are going to Fort Branch Saturday to see Asher, Lilly and Parents. Elliott also wants to see a couple Otter Baseball games in Evansville. Bobby is the hitting Coach. We will be back Monday and don’t really have plans for the 4th. Do all of you have plans? My Manager, at Nora, is retiring July 3rd. We don’t know who will take over. Summer Reading is half over which is hard to believe. Elliott and I hope to go see Audrey and Parents in July. We will also see a Cardinals game. Other plans for summer is hopefully going to the Pierogi Festival in Whiting In. Go to the State Fair on a Two for Tuesday and go back to Forth Branch for Asher and Lilly’s Birthday. What are your summer plans?

Out with the old hip ~ in with the new!

Got Steve home yesterday - released from OrthoIndy at the very same time as the huge deluge of rain!  Not a fun ride home, with rush hour to boot.  Anyway, we have survived the first over-night and half of today!  I am as if a full-time nurse…

OrthoIndy is a very luxe hospital….large private room, private nurse, full menu for room service dining….all the bells and whistles!  I’d be in no hurry to go home!  But Dr. Hupfer doesn’t believe in staying longer than absolutely necessary.  Which in Steve’s case was about 36 hours!

Matthew comes in tonight, I will be very thankful for the help.  Steve can’t be left alone for at least 2 weeks, and I am not staying home that long - haha!

See you all tomorrow night at Kate’s!

Two Movies

I hardly go to movies anymore but this week saw two>  Book Club and RBG.  Both were worth seeing. Book Club was very light and predictable but enjoyable. RBG is actually a documentary of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’ s life. It was terrific: crying; laughing; entertaining and informing. Definitely a MUST SEE. No surprise ending since at 84 she is still on the Supreme Court. Inspiring!

70th Wedding Anniversary Shindig!!

I drove back from Minnesota last night after being gone for a week.  Steve, Taylor, Kelly, Delaney and Ella flew up from here on Friday and Matthew flew up from Florida that day too (Davie couldn’t get away).  We had a wonderful event for my folks on Sunday at the Best Western Plus in New Ulm.  186 attended….sit down dinner, a few speeches and a wonderful slide show that my sister put together.  Then 2 hours of dancing to my folks favorite live band, The Leon Olsen Show.  The tables, flowers, decorations, food & drink (bar bill was our gift) and all was first class!  My parents could not have been more pleased with their celebration!  I nearly danced holes in my shoes….and my dad did great despite needing a walker - he was able to do 5 or 6 dances, including one with me where he twirled me around! It was a party to remember….I wonder if they will make it to 80th????

Anyway, I hope to have photos to make an album to share.  We had a professional photographer and also a friend who is an amateur/professional photog. taking pictures.  Not sure when I will have access to them.  Amazingly, most of the family was there…special guests were my mother’s 5 siblings, oldest is 94.  My dad has no siblings left….he is the youngest at 93.  Anyway, lots of relatives and friends attended.

Now I am trying to get things back in order before Steve’s hip replacement on Monday the 18th.  I plan to be able to come to CC on 21st at Kate’s.  Matthew is flying up to spend about 10 days helping to take care of Steve.  Amazing what has to be done at home, where in years past they sent you to a rehab facility!

See you on the 21st!

CC will be shrinking….

Thank you for a nice evening of catching up, Maureen!  Gosh….seems that we will be fewer and fewer!  Kate reported on housing finds in Phoenix.  Maureen reported on not finding housing in Mason, Ohio.  Susan reported on possible moves within the city or else to Asheville, NC area….

It could be a dramatic change for our little group….  But after 33 years, so many things can change!  It is a wonder we stayed together for this long!

I am heading up to Minnesota next week to help my folks with final preparations for their big 70th wedding anniversary party on June 10.  250 or so guests, sit down dinner, live band and dancing afterwards.  I am sad that my dad can pretty much no longer dance, due to needing a walker to get around.  Mother will have plenty of dance partners, we will see to that!

Steve returned from Minnesota this afternoon.  We went over to Big Lug Canteen in Nora for a nice outdoor supper….  If you haven’t eaten there, you ought to.  As well as at their sister restaurant next door, Sahm’s.

Take care everyone, and see you at Kate’s on June 21st!

Enjoyed

Getting together was great. Desert refreshing and wine divine. I noticed today that the Knockout roses at Townshipline Kroger had the same die back and those were just put in a few years ago. The weird weather must have affected most of them city wide.

Home again

I returned Wednesday evening, 11 hours and 683 miles…

Got lots done in preparation for my folks big 70th anniv. party….expecting around 225 people.  Had the deck man here yesterday and also the landscaper….cement man yet to pay a visit too.  Nothing will be started till July when our turn will come!  First is deck, then new sidewalks and some cement pads for storage areas, and last the landscaping.  It will be August by then!

Not certain, but I think I can have CC next Wednesday night, my only good night.  Will send out an email.

Matthew is flying up for the weekend, going to the Indy Gran Prix race tomorrow with Steve, all of us to the Counterpoints show in the evening.  Celebrating Mothers Day in some way on Sunday!

Happy Mothers Day to you all too!

Busy Days

Now that Spring is here days are busy with all sorts of activities.
Friday we drove to Wheeling, West VA for the night and then on Saturday drove the last hour to Pittsburgh where we met Calvin and his parents. Calvin cheered his parents on at the start - 7 a.m. and saw them again at the 3 mile mark before falling asleep. We went back to the hotel for breakfast, play time, and another nap before seeing them at mile 25 to give them the last cheer to get them to the end.
This was Rachel’s “come back” marathon - her first since having Calvin 10 months ago! Zach ran with Rachel and their time was 4 hours 31 minutes…only 35 minutes longer than her personal best time.
After the race - checked out, drove to Cincinnati where we spent the night in Mason - drove around the area. Sunday…did a 3 mile walk in out “not new neighborhood”, saw our “almost but not new house”...drove home, did a 25 mile bike ride and enjoyed dinner in the gazebo.
And now…to cut the grass, miscellaneous yard work and laundry.

Susan…the signs I made…the starting line one was rather long…to the tune of Down by the Bay…Down in the Street, where the runners all will meet, back to your room you dare not go, for if you do, your mother will say:  Go out and have fun in the miles you run.
The second sign had a smiling Calvin picture: See my face?...Enjoy the race
The third had a very concerned looking Calvin picture: Are you doing okay?
and the finish line sign said: May I have your banana?

I laminated them so they will probably be used in other races…

CC at my house

Got back from Honolulu on Friday….been a whirlwind ever since, trying to get back on track.  I am no good to have it here this week, and next week I could have it either Monday April 30 or Tuesday May 1 because I am driving up to Minnesota on Wednesday the 2nd.

Or ~ we could wait until I return, which would put it to like May 15, 16 or 17.

Or ~ someone else could go ahead and have it before that!

planting

Time to come back and plant in your yard. The weather here is finally turning into spring. I am fighting with myself to not overdo in the yard. Last week I was saved from my sore back by an individual yoga class but can’t count on that every week. I agree with Woody on the interesting cloud formations.
