Next batch of pics

http://picasaweb.google.com/carol.flower.hatfield/MariboDenmarkAugust678GermanyAug8#

We are leaving Germany tomorrow (Wednesday) and driving to Delft, Netherlands.  Have pics from Germany that I will work on when we get to our next hotel - it’s too late tonight! Just got back from our last evening with Gerhard and Monika - it’s been pretty special reconnecting with them.

IT’s NOT EUROPE BUT…

We had another 1/2 family reunion in Chicago this past weekend.  Kevin and Jen were to fly in - Roanoke to Philadelphia to O’Hare ... best laid plans - they ended up Roanoke - Philadelphia - Cincinnati and then Rachel drove them here and we drove them to Chicago. Marie was to pick up her husband at “the airport” - Marie was at O’Hare but Tom was at Midway so as long as it was kind of on our way ... Kevin, Rachel, and Jen all hopped out of the car at the beginning of the ramp, ran inside to use the restroom, ran out the door and managed to get in the car before we had driven 15 feet. It has been a long time since we had 5 people in the van!  We had a nice visit.  Dave and I went up the Sears Tower and did the architecture boat tour.  It was good but too much information to absorb!  Sunday morning Kevin and Jen left (their 5th airport in 2 days), Dave left for Duluth, and Rachel and I drove back here. Kitty ended up getting bit by 2 of the 4 dogs there and 1 dog bit another - I think next year the extra dogs will stay home…

Copenhagen Photos

Here are photos from our day in Copenhagen.  http://picasaweb.google.com/carol.flower.hatfield/DenmarkAugust52010#

Our weekend in Maribo for the 50th wedding anniversary was so great!!  Now we have driven into Germany, little town of Bad Segeberg (near Hamburg) and staying in a little hotel right on the town square.  Met up with our friends Gerhard and Monika Neumann (he was AFS student of Steve’s family in high school) for dinner in a restaurant by the lake, and tomorrow we will all go to the town of Lubeck on the Baltic Sea.  (the home of Marzipan candies)  Hope to have more photos uploaded tomorrow.

Denmark

All is well so far!  Copenhagen was interesting - history rich, beautiful flowers, bicyclers as common as cars.  We walked around the city for about 5 hours after we checked into our hotel on Thursday morning - up for 36 straight hours by the time we went to bed that night.  But a good night’s sleep cured any jetlag, and yesterday we drove down to this island in south Denmark, little city of Maribo where today (Saturday) is the 50th anniv. party for Lis and Nils (our friends from our times in Hawaii).  I hope to put an album of photos up by tonight!

I have to Brag!!

This is the first time Bobby has been manager of a baseball team, even if it is a Summer League College team, and the team just won their first playoff round last night. Both Bobby and Matt are still applying for a job. They will substitute teach, when school starts, until they find a job. i didn’t feel good, this morning, since I didn’t sleep well last night. I decided to go to Zumba, with Barb, and I really did feel better after the class. It’s true what people say about exercising! it does make you feel better!! Are any of you going to see Mary Poppins, at Murat, in Oct.? I’m going with Donna. I enjoyed the movie and there are new songs in the current Musical.

Leaving Wednesday, ready or not

I guess that just about says it all!  I have everything crossed off my list, the trouble is I keep making a new one!  Somehow preparing to be gone for almost a month makes a disproportionate difference to preparing for two weeks trip.  Not just twice as much to think about, but more like ten times!  It is starting to really set in that we will be seeing alot of new places - if I thought I took alot of pictures on trips before this one, watch out!  Hope to have time to post every few days, and put albums on Picasa.  See you all in September!

Home

Dave and I got home this afternoon - a long exhausting week transitioning my Dad.  To say he appreciated me being there is an understatement.  I picked Dave up at the Cleveland airport (45 minute drive) Friday night at midnight - flight delayed an hour.  We didn’t get to bed until 1, and then my sister called - at 7 AM from Chicago to let us know her flight was going to be on time so we could leave Akron whenever wanted.  I had told her that we wanted to leave early but she didn’t know our plans had changed!

Sorry I missed CC - I guess I’ll meander over to Susan’s and get a recap.

Sunday we are going downtown at 6 am to get Rachel set up for her Tri Indy - swim in the canal - not my idea of sports.

Kate, now I remember where I read about the accident you saw at Yellowstone

I always read the online version of the Minneapolis Star - you would think I would remember because the fellow was from Minnesota.  Very sad for the family,  and traumatic for you and Bill to witness it.
YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. - A motorcyclist from Minnesota was killed when he crashed head-on with a motor home at Yellowstone National Park.

Park officials say 42-year-old Dale Payne, Jr., of Burtrum, Minn., was killed instantly Wednesday afternoon when his Harley-Davidson crossed the centerline and hit the oncoming vehicle.

A young girl riding in a sidecar on Payne’s motorcycle was thrown from the vehicle and suffered injuries. The park didn’t release her name. The girl was in stable condition at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

The girl was wearing a helmet, but investigators have not yet determined whether Payne was wearing a helmet found at the scene.

Wednesday’s death marked the second fatal motorcycle accident at Yellowstone this summer.

dental fun forever

Well root canal continuation today. Still an active infection in my jaw so the dentist packed my tooth with antibiotics and said let’s try again in three weeks. I am trying to be optimistic but it is tough after two years of messing with this. The dentist said we may keep doing this over several visits until the infection abates. I treated myself with a trip to Home Depot (near to the dentist) and picked up a few clearance items. I bought a darling lime colored Japanese maple for $15. Kara came over after work and helped to kick start my hall entry way. We washed down the wall and skim coated it. Then we sanded it down. I need to do some more sanding and then can start painting.

I didn’t see any scabble players, yesterday, but I looke at the August calenday and Friday, Aug. 13th, 20th and 27th is booked for the scabble team. You probably pop by or I can ask about it on the 13th. it looks like it’s reserved from 12:30 to 4:30. We had the therapy dogs ( the bigger dogs) again today. The kids seem to really enjoy reading to the dogs. They are signing up again and Aug. 7th is already full.  Elliott and I picked out a new shower curtain for our Master bathroon. We are getting an acrylic mold over the bathtub and wall. We are taking out the shower door and putting in a cressent shower rod so we needed a new shower curtain.Tonight, after work, I’m going to Hellas to meet an ex co-worked from Nora.

These Years

Short version:  my Dad is okay but if it isn’t one thing it is another.  As best my sister can figure - and it makes sense - although St.Ed’s isn’t saying it is so until they talk to the Dr. - before my Dad was moved the Dr. for some reason decided to change a medication that my Dad has been on for years for pain in his jaw.  This medicine was working just fine so who knows why the Dr. felt it needed to be changed. But around 5 yesterday my Dad had the aide calling several of the family (didn’t try me) because he was in hysterical tears, feeling drunk etc.  St Ed’s at the time believed that my Dad was just going through a period of adjustment to a new room.  Of course all the calls went to voice mail. One of my CA brothers did end up speaking with him then called my sisters pager.  So she and my brother spent yesterday evening with my Dad - Kitty was trying to get all the loose ends at work and at home tied up before leaving on vacation….

A family of a patient had their lawyer subpoena her to testify on their behalf I guess in a claim against where she works…so she was also dealing with having to meet with her employers attorney I think before she left…

I am trying to come up with scenario A B and C so I’ll already have a plan in mind if anything happens while I am there - knowing full well that whatever I don’t plan for is what will happen.
