Beware the heat

Yesterday was root canal fun. I was in the chair for two hours with the endodontist prodding and poking for an hour and a half. After two years I still have an active infection. I am back on antibiotics. For lunch I stopped and downed a Steak (a shooter) and Shake ( chocolate malted). Then I needed a three hour nap. My mouth was sore so I just had a small bowl of ice cream for supper. I had no problem falling asleep that night.
But not so complete a recovery was to be had. Feeling a little shaky the next morning I still managed to walk dogs, lift litter and find some mystery mail. Then a quick water and yogurt for lunch . I grabbed a bottle of water and a juice pack and went off to swim class. The cool water felt great but ten minutes before the end of class I was sweaty and so weak I could barely lift my legs. I got out of the pool and collapsed on the bench and chugged my water. Sally took my blood sugar and it was slightly low (80). She brought me a sugary drink and a peanut butter crackers which I wolfed down. And then someone refilled my water. After 20 minutes I was able to walk unassisted to the locker room where I drank more water and my apple juice. On the way to my car I ate an orange. my instructor had offered to drive me home but I was ok. she followed me home. By that time I was feeling pretty good but I rested for an hour and was ready to go to a party.  when I got home at 10:00 I had a message from my instructor asking me to call. I had forgotten that I told her I would call. She said that she thought I was in the hospital.  oops. The moral of my story is drink your water.

I had a great 4th weekend

Carol, It sounds like you had a great trip with the girls,Steve and visiting family. I enjoyed being with my family and some of Nancy’s friends. I enjoyed the Taste ( great food ), Centennial Park in Munster ( great band and fireworks) Highland festival (more food and fireworks). The evenings were very pleasant weatherwise Friday and Saturday evening. Sunday was more humid and uncomfortable. I really had a great time with my sister. I usually don’t spend so much time with her when I go to Munster. My Mom and I took Josh to see Toy Story 3. We asked him if he had seen it and hje said no until we were leaving the theater. Then he said he saw it on Demand TV, at a friend’s house. I played baseball and bowling on his WII. It takes a while to figur out how to pitch, bat and bowl but it was OK. I enjoyed having breakfast with my cousin Linda (why is everything food?). I was ready to go to work today! Barb and I are going to Zumba tonight so I’ll remind her about CC at Susan’s house, Thursday. I should be able to go. I’m off and go to Riley. Do any of you know of a place that serves breakfast in Broad Ripple? My friend, Rhonda, wants to meet there, at 8:30, for breakfast.

Now it feels like summer!

We are back from our trip up to Minnesota with Delaney and Ella - had a nice visit with Steve’s folks, plus went on some fun outings while we were there.  The girls loved the Mall of America and the shopping time in the American Girl store.  Delaney had saved $ to buy a Bitty Baby, and Ella had $ to buy some accessories for her regular sized doll. We ate at the Bistro inside there also.  The mall is so huge that we really only spent time in one-quarter of the place.  There is a full sized amusement park there too - I took Ella on one ride.  I also drove up to Pine City to visit Glor (she owns the house I grew up in there!) but unfortunately she was in Duluth!  But the girls and I had a blast roaming around inside my old school, eating lunch curbside at the rootbeer stand, and driving around the town, lake and river areas etc.  Also took them to Como Park in Saint Paul - a nice zoo and beautiful conservatory, Japanese gardens etc. , to the Minnesota State Capitol and twice to the Minnesota History Center.  We didn’t begin to run out of things to do in the cities.  And for Steve’s folks, Delaney and Ella put on the “Shakespeare’s Sonnets” program (the one Gloria and I did at Poetry group - including the quiz at the end, Maureen!).  Delaney read the sonnet and Ella (a fantastic reader for a 6 yr old) read the paraphrased meaning.

We had a nice 4th of July and today Taylor, Melissa and girls are coming over for mesquite smoked turkey breast on the grill.  Hope to see you all on Thursday (except for Kate I guess!).

Chicago wedding

We had a lovely time. The bride and her gown, hair etc were elegant. My friend, mother of the bride,  looked like she would cry thoughout the ceremony.
Our trip up there started off slowly. Warning: there is construction on 65 N and 865 was stop and go at 5 mph. It took us an hour to go about ten miles. Anyone going that way might want to think of alternate routes(31 up to Westfield and then over to 65?) Fortunately we had allowed extra time so we arrived to the rehearsal dinner on time(I changed in a rest room on the way). We were exhausted Sunday morning and slept until 10:30 cst. We had ample time to kill so went shopping for accessories for my dress( I forgot to pack any jewelry). We didn’t stay overnight on Sunday and just headed back. Got home at 2:00a.
The boys stayed with a friend who had a 4 and 6 year old with him so they wore the dogs out and vice versa. Jack and Jo did no harm. Their only problem was barking every time the icemaker dropped the scary ice cubes. Smart dogs(lol)

My Power

Didn’t know I had so much power!  I said rain rain go away - and look how nice these last 2 days have been!  I have just opened the windows and shut the air off, enjoyed yard work and sitting in the gazebo.  The mailman started the lawnmower for me so that I could cut the grass.  Let’s hope the weekend is nice - although I suppose we could use an overnight shower.

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

At least the weekend was pleasant!  We have reached the saturation point in the yard after all the rain so that after this rain we now have standing water by the shed.  Should be interesting what the weather continues to be the rest of the summer.
No plans for the week except sleep later than I usually do since Dave is in Calgary.  He showed up at the airport 12 hours early for his flight.  He thought it departed at 6:30 AM ...

Sorry about last night

Matt ran late ( he was helping Elliott’s parents, with their house, for two hours) so he didn’t get to Outback until 8:00. We talked alot and then went to the Drugstore. Maureen, there is a scrabble group that meets Friday mornings at Pike. Kathy, did you and Barb tell Sue about her sister? What are all of your Father’s Day plans? Since the boys are out of town we plan to clean the yard and rest. I am going to Jersey Boys, at Murat, tomorrow. Elliott hasn’t mentioned anything with his parents. I’m going to Munster around the 1st of July for about five days. We will, go to the Taste of Chicago, a gambling boat, etc.and celebrate birthdays and holidays. Elliott will stay home.

CC tonight

I am still planning to come but Matt is taking Elliott and I to Outback, for an early Father’s Day at 7:00 so I’m not sure when I’ll get to Maureen’s house. Matt and Bobby will both be out of town Sunday. Hope to see all of you tonight unless it gets too late. Last night Kitzi took Elliott and me out for dinner, for my Birthday and we didn’t get home until 10:00.

back to earth

The party over we headed for Colorado. Bill’s relatives all live out there: 2 sisters, husbands, 3 nieces , 2 nephews and six darling children. We started in Denver with a baseball game and went to Boulder the next day. The Celestial Seasons tea factory tour was a hit and the campus is lovely. The ambiance of the outdoor mall is pricey posthippie with lots of musicians and performers. John was impressed. We stopped at an outlet mall on the way to a resort area in the mountains. John purchased many clothes(20 tshirts and 3 pair of shoes for starters)and I found a few “needed”: items too.We mostly relaxed, hiked and went to the Farmers market. then on to the Western slope to visit his other sister. We rode the gondola in Tellueride and then were awed by the black canyon of the Gunnison. Family visiting was lots of fun. Our trip ended last night at 2:00a. In the morning I picked up the pooches from Kara and returned home to nap on the couch for five hours with the two doggies on top of me. The black raspberry crop is plentiful this year. Come with containers.

Weekend Activities

Rachel came home Saturday to help celebrate Aunt Gloria’s 84th birthday.  Dave made the 1 1/2 hour loop drive picking up his Dad and Aunt Gloria and then back home.  After lunch we played scrabble, hearts, and sequence before making the loop drive to take everyone home but this time we ended at the POPS concert - Michael Cavanaugh played rock and rolls hits - almost had us dancing in the aisle!.

Sunday after a late breakfast Rachel, Dave, and I went on a 20 mile bike ride.  What a way to break in my seat!  The most I had done so far was a 5 mile ride.  We did not join Rachel for a run after the ride! She is training for her triathlon.

Hope to see everyone Thursday.

Cherrington Beach Cleaner to pick up tar balls from the BP oil disaster

Just got this email from my brother Craig, and I am more than proud to share it with you all:

I was just watching the NBC news and in a story about the BP oil spill they showed a Cherrington Beach Cleaner outfitted to pick up tar balls on Orange Beach Alabama! (I can still remember Linda and I traveling in 100+ degree weather to Texas in a little black pick up with no air conditioner in the early 80’s to retrieve that first beach cleaner and then the very first sale of our very own machine I sold using the sand left over from my sand blasting area at USA trailer sales!)
Who would have thought that would lead to the Cherrington Beach Cleaner being sold world wide and featured on many TV programs and magazine articles around the world. Judi and Dad did a hell of a job to get it to the point it is today and should be proud as should all those family and co-workers that supported all of us that produced and sold that machine and all of the additional models, over the years. Our dad really is a once in a million engineer, very few people realize the kind of thought and precision required to do the things he does.

Its on right now on NBC..

I guess this is as close as I will ever come to being famous:)    I am going to see if I can find the news piece and if I do, I will post the link.

Poetry Plus for June

You are all invited to attend Poetry Plus this Wednesday June 9 at 10 am in the library at Pilgrim Lutheran Church.  CarolFay’s friend (from Columbus, Ohio) Mary Ann Grove is with us again, and will be presenting a program “More of God’s Wonders”.  Some of you were at her first program a year ago in April when she brought her Saints collection.

Hope to see you there!

PS to CarolFay:  We had to change from Tuesday night because only 2 of us could make it from our regular group!!! So Mary Ann suggested Wed. morning, and that way more of us can be there. She said they are staying at your house, so hopefully you can come to hear her.
