Carol’s FB post.

Since we are all concerned about Carol I saw her Facebook post and copied it to the comments on our CC previous post. I mentioned to her we were concerned so she might post on CC, I don’t know. I’m at work until 5:00 and have access to a computer, at the desk. Sue I don’t know if you knew the Meshulams on Delbrook. First the husband passed away and now Ruth, the wife, just died. Elliott and I are going to her funeral, tomorrow. I saw Sally Brindle at the son’s home when the family was sitting Shivah for Mr. Meshulam. I can’t remember if I mentioned this family at CC when we were at Barb’s house. The grandchildren are Ryan and Eric.

I heard on the news that Hawaii is under a tsunami warning.  How is that effecting your activities Carol?

Still hanging in at 3 pain pills a day - tried unsuccessfully to go down to 2 1/2. Dr.‘s appt. is Wednesday.

Blue skies at last

It is heavenly here on this island - perfect blue skies, gentle breeze and about 80 degrees.  We have walked the beach, stopped for a Mai Tai at the Royal Hawaiian, snapped a few pictures and now back at the Ilikai to regroup a bit before heading down to the deck area to read for awhile.  Our flight over here was long (10 hours from Atlanta), but made very enjoyable by watching some movies (The Invention of Lying, Pandorum, Law Abiding Citizen) and eating some very good food along the way.  While it still seems very odd not to have Steve’s folks here to enjoy our time with, we will absolutely cherish every minute of our stay nonetheless!  We are going to have dinner tonight at the Hau Tree Lanai.  We have a perfect view from our lanai, can even see Diamond Head!

Pike Movies

Do you care to see any of these movies ( you might have seen a coupl already)  Milk, A Serious Man, Whip it, The invention of Lying and the time Traveler’s Wife. Bright Star hasn’t come in yet. Let me know so I can take them to you after 6:00 tonight, if any sound good! Sorry I didn’t make it last night. I really was very tired.!! I had two bad nights of sleep. I tried watching a little of the Olympics figure skating but was too tired for that so I taped it and watched it with Bobby this morning. He had already seen it but was nice enough to watch it again with me. I think it’s more enjoyable to watch with somebody!

Not that I’ll ever be the movie connoisseur that Carol Fay is ... but I have been watching several.  I would recommend Departures - Japanese movie with subtitles (sorry Carol Fay).  A very touching story about the Japanese ritual of preparing a body for burial, love, forgiveness, honor, death.  It won several Academy Awards - not that I use that as a criteria for what movies I like.  The other movie is Man on Wire.  I only started to watch this and knew that Dave would also like it so I’ll wait and watch it with him.  It is also foreign - French although there is some English spoken it is with a heavy French accent.  What makes this film interesting is that it also shows the building of the World Trade Center as this man is also building is “career” as a high wire walker.  He eventually does walk between the 2 towers in 1974.

A book I’d recommend is Invisible: a memoir by Hughes de Montalembert.. blinded during a robbery attempt in NYC this French painter and photographer learns to move forward - traveled solo around the world, transition he under went…philosophical statements.  Not in paperback yet - good book club read.

On to next movie - or nap

Since When?

I received an e-mail from the library (unlike Susan who they don’t email - over due books story).  They were telling me that my library card expires in March!  Since when do library cards expire???  I have one of the “old fashioned” ones and I have the number memorized - I don’t want a new card!

Using an ice pack in between pain pills.  Hope to limit pills to 4 a day.

Nice to have sun shining.  Rachel is coming home today and going to the POPS concert with Dave.  It sounds like a good concert.  Originally Nick was to come with her but a niece is being baptized in Dayton on Sunday.  Rachel didn’t think it would make for a relaxing weekend for them to do both so they are going their separate ways this weekend.

Carol Fay Pike Express

I was able to get both movies so I’ll be at your house around 6:30. It was nice being off, yesterday, but for some reason I am so tired today. Maybe it’s all in my mind because I know I have to be back here at 8:30 tomorrow. I get off Sunday, which helps. It could be this weather also that makes me really tired. I hope all of you will have a good weekend. We just went to Scotty’s B house for Elliott’s B day (the one in Carmel). I’m not sure what we are doing for Valentines. Do you have plans!??

Doctor visit

The dr. adjusted the immobilizer to make it more comfortable - not that comfort is a word I’d use with immobilizer.  He says I really need to relax that shoulder - not tense up - even as he begins to twist it cause I think it might hurt.  Easier said than done!  I can release the arm and let it dangle every hour for 10 minutes to unkink it.  3 more weeks in it.

Looking Out

From inside the house the outside looks very pretty! If the weatherman is right we may get to enjoy the snow falling some more!

I have a follow up dr.‘s appt Wednesday morning - stitches out (5 holes), see pictures, and get the details of what he found. I did go off all pain meds as of 9 pm last night and seem to be doing fine.  Don’t mind the restrictions on the use of my arm - except for showers and getting dressed.  Try washing your hair while bent at the waist and one arm dangling.

Three movies and 1 book down - still have 4 movies, 3 books and more awaiting pickup - the pain meds were making my mind too foggy to really focus.  It did register though that the Colts lost.

Surgery Report

I just had a call from the patient herself, home safe and sound from the hospital -although I told Maureen she sounded a little out of it - it was good to hear her voice and get a short report.  The surgery went as planned except for some surprise dead bone that the doctor needed to scrape away, perhaps due to her past radiation treatments.  She was told that the best thing she could do to aid in her recovery was to pretend she’d had a stroke and lost all use of her arm!  She wasn’t in any pain now due to the pain block, but was to start on Aleve straight away nonetheless.  Dave served her soup for lunch in a mug, great for a one armed stroke victim!! Also, she does not have to take a shower but can instead just do a sponge bath on the area.

I think that’s about all I can remember ~ go ahead and call her tomorrow for more details or just to say hey!

Goofy host

CC is back up after a “what the heck is going on” at the hosting site.  Steve put in a help ticket and after some back and forth communications, we are up and running again.

I hope everyone got the message from Raquel that she is having CC at her house Wednesday night.  I am putting out the call for moving boxes - if anyone has some, please let me know.  Matthew and Davie are moving to Cleveland in the next week - Davie interviewed and got a job there, so away they go as it is a good job with alot of potential.  We will be sad to see them move, but it isn’t all that far away.

See you tomorrow night!
