Decoration Day

This morning Delaney and I went over to Union Chapel Cemetery and put daisies on Veteran’s graves.  The cemetery dates back to 1822 and has the final resting places of soldiers dating as far back as the Revolutionary War.  It was a very solemn experience.

Remembering every soldier who has served our country.

“It is the soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, Who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protestor to burn the flag.”

Two go home

Very happy to say that my dad was released from the hospital on Tuesday, and I drove back here that same day.  He has an RN visiting him for several hours daily (or as needed) for two weeks at home to make sure his vitals are good, the incision is healing properly, and his recovery is progressing.  His surgeons were amazed at his determination and positive thinking and said that he is a young 86 year old!  The whole experience left me appreciative of all the years my folks have had together (their 63rd Wedding Anniv. was two days before his surgery), but has also made me think more about the inevitable loss of parents.

Good to be home, and when it stops raining I will re-commence my gardening!!

....a little rain must fall

I think everyone took advantage of the sun shining this morning and just kept going until the rain came - not until 4 - a few hours after predicted - but I am not complaining!  We rode the long way to and from the farmers market in Broad Ripple and piddled around the yard, actually ate 2 meals in the gazebo.

Carol, good to hear that your Dad is doing well.  Recovery is always the hard part - a long road.

Kate, I will try to come tonight but I’ll be late if I make it. This is my Friday to work, which I like, A breather of a day without Patrons and then two days off in a row. Hope to see most of you since I Carol won’t be with us.

My turn

I am headed to Minnesota tomorrow, my dad is very ill and right now in surgery at a hospital in the cities.  The hope is to correct a bowel obstruction by re-sectioning, but due to radiation therapy damage from his prostate cancer the tissue is not reliable and may present quite a complication.  They have tried several different ways to clear this up with no success.  As of yesterday, the Drs were going to try 2 more days of nasal gastric decompression but today it was determined that they could no longer wait to try surgery.  Thankfully my brother, two sisters and some of their families are there with Mother at the hospital.  I am very hopeful for successful surgery, my dad is a strong and determined man - but all prayers for him are welcome.  Looks like I will not be at CC Thursday.  I will keep you updated.

Besides watching the Wedding, I had a great time

I enjoyed my time with Bobby, Kitzi and her Hubby Larry. Friday and Monday I had time alone with Kitzi. Saturday night and Sunday Day I had time alone with Bobby. The rest of the time was mixed with Bobby, Kitzi and Larry. It was great staying at Kitzi’s. I had a bedroom and bathroom, upstairs, all to myself! The cat, four dachshund dogs, Kitzi and Larry all slept downstairs. Kitzi made me breakfast each morning. It was Oatmeal, yogart and fruit. We ate lunch and dinner out and took turns treating. Bobby treated me to dinner at Red Lobster, after his DH Baseball games, Sat. night. Then he surprised me and took me to a Casino in Council Bluffs. We played penny slots. Sunday we had a great time at the Iowa Zoo. I took pictures, of course!
