Calling All

Dave has asked me to send out an “all call” - to Carol for more wine bottles.

Nothing new here - Dave’s Dad seems to be doing well.  He had his hearing checked - he hears at 60% - and he said over a year ago - I can hear, I just can’t make out all the words.  Kathy and I worked for 3 hours in the house cleaning out odds and ends.  Dave and his brother should be able to take care of the rest in a Saturday!  Sue - turns out that Alan likes (and wants) the dresser than Dave and I didn’t care for!  Everything seems to be working out.

Previous entry: too much drama

Simply amazing how some things work out. We have a home health nurse coming tomorrow. Anyone want to come and walk the dogs?

Clarian North has a speaker coming on July 27th - Monday - at 6.  The subject is Mind Body Medicine.  Her husband is Dr. Sobat who I believe is in internal medicine and earlier gave a talk on the connection of diet to cancer.  I am not guaranteeing it but I imagine there will be food like there was for the reconstruction talk.  If anyone is interested let me know.

I’ll start a wine bottle bag Maureen, and I am also going to ask Gloria to save their bottles.

Glad to hear that Dave’s dad is adjusting well. Hearing does get to be an issue as we age.  I think I have mentioned that my parents both have severe hearing loss but to some it would be hard to tell since it’s been that way for decades and they have learned to read lips pretty well.  My mother has no hearing at all in one ear (mastoid operation at age 9) and about 35% in her good ear.  My father also has no hearing at all in one ear (WWII injury) and in the other even with the best hearing aid made he has also has about 35%.  I always make a point to speak in a firm, clear voice and when possible have eye contact.  Hardest situation for them is in a group setting, especially a restaurant to be able to take part in any conversation.  Too many voices and sounds.

Thanks for the speaker info - hard to say right now if I’d go.

Susan, how is the patient?  How was the home nurse?

Boy Carol ... their hearing loss doesn’t sound as if it stops them from doing what they want though!  And at least the admit they can’t hear - and want to be able to!

I have four bottles for you. the patient seems to be slowly getting better but is still not walking much. He sleeps alot and is not eating much. I am worn out. My computer from school arrived yesterday. I still have a mess in my room to clean up but I cam finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.

With Susan’s 4 bottles we will need 10 more.  If all goes well Dave will be bottling in about 3 or 4 weeks.

I went to the program at Clarion tonight - healthy snacks so I came home and had a peanut butter chocolate chip bar that I made for our picnic this weekend at Conner Prairie.

Sue - you and I went to a program similar to this after my Mom died and I think it may have been after your Mom died also but maybe not.  She talked about the role the mind plays in healing and different forms of therapy - meditating etc.  The one Sue is the one we learned at the class - where you tap different parts of your body - hand, forehead, chin etc while repeating a mantra.

I just feel weighted down and am looking for something to give me a positive energy field. So I thought I try this - build a relaxation session into my routine.  If that doesn’t work - there is also therapy!

At the next cc you will have to show us the meditation. I forgot exactly what to do. As for down feelings, there are many approaches that help. You have been through a stressful time and some gloomy should be expected. Each time a loved one passes it is a reminder of others and also a foreshadowing of others to come including our own. Of course you have the exercise part covered but talking it out helps too. If it lasts too long there is medication.  Chocolate helps too.

I should be available for walks in another week or so. Bill is slowly improving.

Thanks Susan! - very insightful about foreshadowing.  I am all talked out about it and just want to move beyond - a quick fix like a shot.  I didn’t realize that it takes work and a plan to move on - don’t recover from traumas like I used to!

Glad to hear that Bill is making progress - any plan in place to help prevent further mishaps or to put him in a better position to recuperate?

Bill did great today in his first PT session. He walked all the way to the living room from his bed and back. By then he was huffing and puffing. The plan is to get him well and then lose some weight. He realizes that he was quite close to going to an assisted living place.

The odd thing is that I went to only one sale this weekend and at it I found several health aids that immediately(well after a thourough cleaning) got some use.

My big news is that I officially resigned today. I am tickled pink although yesterday while cleaning my room I was feeling quite nostalgic. Al went with me and the personnel guy was quite jovial.

Anybody want to go with me to the Meridian Hills country club tomorrow at 2:00? It is for a presentation about Marquette Manor and Bill was supposed to come but can’t.

I have two wine bottles. Do you still need some? I’m sorry I haven’t been on for a while. I had a great time at the reunion and the bridal shower. More at CC.

We’re leaving Friday for a short trip to Michigan and Cleveland.  Does anyone know of anything to do in Cleveland?  Don’t know if I’ll make it to CC next Thursday; we’re supposed to get back Wed. night.
