Carol Faye, you are next! May 6th
We missed you last night. Advice was offered re: carpeting stairs, gardening, and visiting the brother in Illinois. (On the latter, Bill agrees with Susan, and I think we will run over there on Sunday.)

Next entry: Flowers
Previous entry: And another runner
Maureen bite the bullet and match the downstairs. Have you looked at bamboo?
Kate(and anyone who is interested) I have several different sorts of bushes which are quite acceptable under it is free so why don’t we try it? Do come overand give a look. I would hate for anyone to go to a nursery to buy what I willingingly would give away. I have two sorts of viburnums, variegated winter creeper, and extra spireas. Other possible bushes to plant are red twig dogwoods which have winter interest. I also have multiple two foot high redbud trees. I am putting one in the back but giving the rest away. I might try stealth planting too.
this rain is yukky but I am trying to use my time wlisely by straightening inside. Both of my rain barrels are full so I am ready for the next bout of dry weather.

Well, we drove over and saw him for 15 mintutes, then he fell asleep. We took my neice to dinner. I’m glad we went. Yes, I’m going over to care for him at home on Thursday, Friday, part of Saturday. He will be home 8 weeks—and it will be awful for him because he has to give up smoking. He said he needs a hobby. Any ideas? Bill thought he might like the tiny scissor cutting thing—schwoiebaweuui>? what is it called and where can I get supplies? any other ideas? Alas, he doesn’t have internet at home. Susan, I will come over—definitely interested.

I have a book on shrubs that has good photos too. Why don’t you borrow back your book and cross reference native shrubs with what you like? Schnerrenschnitten is the German originated name. My husband’s uncle (a former Marine Colonel) took up needlepoint. Are there crafts which he could do to sell or benefit of others? Wood working? quilting? crochet? There are many games he could play too. Does his library have internet? Or he could go green and pick up litter. I think the walking is something he will need to do. After my Dad’s bypass they had him up the same day.

Susan - what kind of red stem dogwood? One kind sounds like it spreads and gets big. Arctic Fire is smaller and doesn’t spread.
Kate - hobbies… does he do anything now? What does he do for a living? Join a health club? Wine making? Ice cream making? But I guess he needs to do something quick with his hands when the urge to smoke hits him… learn to paint?

He sits at a desk—does estimating for steel buildings. He doesn’t really like ice cream, and he likes wine too much.
Thanks Susan and Maureen. He really does like to do for others (esp his 2 grandsons)and neglects himself. Growing up, he used to develop his own pictures—turned our bathroom into a dark room.
He would like the litter idea, where did you get your grabber? (I can’t imagine him bending over at all for awhile—he is not even allowed to use his arms to get himself out of a chair or bed.)

Susan probably got her grabber at a garage sale but you can get them at the store up by Kroger at Township Line - any handicapped aide store.
Susan… Marie is interested in everything except the creeper. She usually stops by on Friday to pick up my plants on her way out of town. Depending on the weather forecast Dave may need to dig them up Wednesday night.

I have plenty of several things but first come first dig. Wednesday would be fine. I will be gone tomorrow in the am but should be home in the afternoon.

Kate, I have a cousin who had a dark room and developed his own pictures. I think picking up litter with a grabber is a great idea.

I guess if we had thought in terms of ... would you possibly regret it if you didn’t go ... then I’m sure Carol and I would have voted with Susan. As long as he is having a mini family reunion - why not! Will you still go later and stay when he gets home?
Blakely’s would like my business and is redoing their bid. I will still go with Brown’s since they came in with the low bid first.
We peeked under the carpeting on the steps - they look to be in great shape. The question now - do we keep them to match the upstairs or pay to have them stripped and refinished to match the downstairs?
