Cherrington Beach Cleaner to pick up tar balls from the BP oil disaster

Just got this email from my brother Craig, and I am more than proud to share it with you all:

I was just watching the NBC news and in a story about the BP oil spill they showed a Cherrington Beach Cleaner outfitted to pick up tar balls on Orange Beach Alabama! (I can still remember Linda and I traveling in 100+ degree weather to Texas in a little black pick up with no air conditioner in the early 80’s to retrieve that first beach cleaner and then the very first sale of our very own machine I sold using the sand left over from my sand blasting area at USA trailer sales!)
Who would have thought that would lead to the Cherrington Beach Cleaner being sold world wide and featured on many TV programs and magazine articles around the world. Judi and Dad did a hell of a job to get it to the point it is today and should be proud as should all those family and co-workers that supported all of us that produced and sold that machine and all of the additional models, over the years. Our dad really is a once in a million engineer, very few people realize the kind of thought and precision required to do the things he does.

Its on right now on NBC..

I guess this is as close as I will ever come to being famous:)    I am going to see if I can find the news piece and if I do, I will post the link.

And to think all these years we just thought you were one of us.  Do they still call it Cherrington Beach Cleaner?

I just googled it ... there is one for sale on youtube that has just been used for 5 hours.  It is still called Cherrington.

And today is Wednesday ... so much for remembering about Poetry Plus!

Missed you at PP - it was a good program, Mary Ann is interesting to listen to!!  We will have her again probably next year.

Absolutely they are still called Cherrington BC’s because my dad holds the inventors’ patent on the name and all of the separate working parts. Sadly, he has had his design pirated by Japanese and German companies, but has never sued because of the cost and the distance.  Apparently they are not as good as a Cherrington either (not the “real McCoy”!).  Also, there are probably 5 or 6 models of different sizes and capabilities now.  An update is that they are also using the machines to actually go along the oil slicked shoreline, pick up the sludge and separate out the oil from the top several inches of the sand.

I have often wondered why I didn’t become a salesperson for my dad…

... Or bought stock in the company?  Speaking of which, I googled Conversation Club for Kevin.  He was shocked that it came up first and said that we (you) could make money by selling ads or links.  How did Steve get it to come up first?

Carol I am proud to know you since it’s your family that is becoming famous, in a very possitive way ( good news for a change). I also enjoyed the poetry program, today. I told Carol I would like to start going to more of the poetry programs, especially if it is changed to daytime( the days I work night shift)
