Happenings
Dave left Thursday and flew back to Cincinnati where Rachel and I picked him up with an hour to spare before we went to a wedding (Luke Field). It is nice going to weddings - takes us back to when we were married!
Sunday we drove home - he was here 2 hours before heading back to the airport to fly to Philly for a 1 day meeting - he’ll be home late Monday.
I actually drove to Cincinnati for the first time all by myself! I told Rachel now that I have done it once - I’ll come see her every weekend and maybe once during the week too!

Maureen when you are going to cincinatti for the day I might want to ride with so I could visit my friend too. so let me know and I could help pay for the gas.
Carol I am glad the girls liked their Pollys. I enjoy having something to look for. Kara and I both decided to sleep in this week. The sales were spread apart and not efficient in terms of going to many. We probably buy things at less than a quarter of the sales. But by going to 20 or 30 in a day we usually find several cool buys.
I have been immersing myself in exploring the world of learning college level info on the internet. There are many universities which are offering lectures on-line for free. Bill Gates thinks in ten years colleges will be doing much more in distance learning. One of the best sites is http://www.openculture.com . At this point getting college credit for learning is not available through these sites but likely at some point there will be tests such as AP and IB that will be available for a minimal fee. Free movies, podcasts, free books and links to huge amounts of interesting articles. If nothing else it may head off demnetia.

So I was up until 1:00 AM Sunday night. Dave called… his flight was delayed leaving IND because of weather on the east coast. He landed at Newark, sat on the runway waiting for an open gate. They allowed those with connecting flights to get off first - bus ride to terminal A where he caught another bus to terminal C. Of course had to wait for both buses. His gate was at the very end and down the stairs - missed his flight by 5 minutes and only 2 baggage people were at the gate. Back up the stairs, found a gate agent. She saw him coming and said ...“Sorry, we are closed.” Dave said - I missed my connecting flight. She said..“Why did you do that?” - and she was serious! Dave was as livid as Dave can get… So he rented a car and drove 2 hours to Philly.
I wrote a letter to Continental last night - he needs to fill in flight and gate numbers. I told them that we understand delays, missed flights, cancellation and are sympathetic and understanding towards employees who need to help passengers and I wasn’t writing about the missed flight but rather the uncalled for rudeness and lack of service! I said - I know it was the end of the day, they wanted to go home etc ... but…
We’ll see if they compensate him (pay extra car rental charge and free ticket???)

Dave is going to sprout wings!
Maureen, of course you can drive to Cincinnati - whatever made you doubt yourself?! I’m sure Rachel is hoping you will pop in real often now (a-ha).
Steve is in MN at his folks for his mom’s 85th birthday (today) - left last Thursday and will be home on Wednesday. I am going up to visit my folks/family September 22 and back October 5.
Susan, the girls are thrilled to pieces over the Pollies!! They love the little baby clothes for their dolls too. They would love it if you would stay on the hunt for more Polly Pockets - you saw Ella’s face, right? Thanks much!!
I saw Raquel at Target this afternoon - she thought maybe we had booted her from CC. I told her to come to CarolFay’s this Wednesday. Eduardo got married in June down in Dallas.
