Mr. Jones celebrated

We (Bill Kara and I) spent two and a half hours in an apostolic at 6601 Grandview church for the funeral of my neighbor and buddy (across the street). I thought Catholic mass was lengthy. I lost count about 14 people spoke about him.  I miss him. He had been fragile for the past few years and finally his heart said enough. Mr.Jones was 98 and a founding father of his congregation. If you have ever been to a Black church you know that it is a moving experience. The music and testimonies are so alive. There were two nurses ready with big sizes of tissues and they were busy. One daughter collapsed after she sang solo Swing Low sweet chariot.

Previous entry: Marshall’s funeral is this afternoon…

It sounds as if lived a good long life…but it is still hard for the ones left behind not to be sad.  With the Easter season drawing to a close it was a good time to go on to his next life!  I envy the inhibitions of the black churches. I am sure his family appreciate you being there…and you are still alive after entering a church!

Sounds like a wonderful send-off for Mr. Jones!
