Surgery Report

I just had a call from the patient herself, home safe and sound from the hospital -although I told Maureen she sounded a little out of it - it was good to hear her voice and get a short report.  The surgery went as planned except for some surprise dead bone that the doctor needed to scrape away, perhaps due to her past radiation treatments.  She was told that the best thing she could do to aid in her recovery was to pretend she’d had a stroke and lost all use of her arm!  She wasn’t in any pain now due to the pain block, but was to start on Aleve straight away nonetheless.  Dave served her soup for lunch in a mug, great for a one armed stroke victim!! Also, she does not have to take a shower but can instead just do a sponge bath on the area.

I think that’s about all I can remember ~ go ahead and call her tomorrow for more details or just to say hey!

Maureen I was thinking about you while I was doing exercise class this morningand sent a quick prayer. I am sure it’s a relief to have the surgery over and pronounced everything was ok. I don’t envy your recuperation but the coming release from pain will be welcome. You know not to try to rush things but remember when you are feeling good not to push too hard. Any morning you need help be sure to call and when you get to the point where boredom sets in I’m good for trips.

I am exercising five days a week now. either T/Th at 11:00 or MWF at 1:00. Afterwards I come home and fall asleep on the couch for an hour or two. I bought a treadmill for $20 but so far have had no luck getting Jack to embrace it. The slowest speed seems a bit fast for him.

Sue,
I just realized, about a month ago, that Sally Brindle, who is the JCC Aquatics program coordinator, lives two doors south of us, on Grandview. I am trying to exercise at least three days a week but it’s usually two. I will start to try to take an Aqua exercise.
Maureen, like Sue, if there is anything I can do to help please let me know. I’m usually home two mornings a week till 12:30 or home after 5:30.
it was great that all seven of us were at the last CC. That really doesn’t happen all that often.

Sally and I know each other and she knows who my dogs are. I knew where she lived and just assumed you did too. I found out that when I am teaching the class I work out harder. I walk the dogs most days for at least 30 minutes but with the deep snow I am hesitant to take them out. Jack still hasn’t figured out the treadmill but I worked with him for 20 minutes last night and he was excited about it. I will keep trying. Right now his fromt paws move but his back paws are splayed out like he is trying to brake. The slowest speed just is too fast for him to start out. will get ther but in the mean time I will wlak on it while watching TV.

Carol, I have some boxes here at the office if you want to stop by and get them anytime.

Making progress - the on q ball is empty and Dave has pulled the tube out - didn’t feel a thing.  Next milestone is a shower!  The hydrocondone does make my brain foggy so it is hard to focus even when reading.  The snow is pretty.

The snow is pretty but be glad to not be shoveling. I worked for awhile but finally paid a couple of young fellas to finish the drive. The snow is incredibly heavy. DC had 20 inches.

Thanks Kate - I will talk to Matthew Monday morning and find out if they still need boxes. I was able to get quite a few at Ace Hardware last Thursday, and as of today those weren’t used up yet.  I’ll give you a call or leave a message on here.
