Update
Spent 12 hours with my dad. he was discharged at 3 this afternoon…really doesn’t mean anything…he is probably too weak for any PT, can’t seat without leaning left, tires so much that he doesn’t have much energy for eating. he drew the line in the sand when it came time to use thickening agents in his liquids which increases his chances of aspiration and choking -pneumonia will most likely set in at some point…but who knows it’s my dad we are talking about and he has a strong positive outlook—although I believe he is admiting death is real -saying I love you at the end of all conversations, crying when I left the hospital last night = my brother took the overnight shift - etc etc paln is to come home either sat or sun. a brother from california will be in thurs for a weed. we will probably be back 4th of july weekend when my twin will be here.

Was he discharged back to his nursing home? or is rehab a possibility? Death sucks. My friend from Cincinatti will stay here Thursday night on the way to a friend’s funeral. Her friend at 62 had a two week window after a diagnosis of stomach cancer.
I am finding your errors to be interesting: pain is to come and a brother coming for weed.

Maureen, I can edit, but I think Susan is right! It sounds like your dad is heading down a new path, a hard one for all. I just had a glimpse of how hard that may be with my dad last month. Are you still in Akron?
We had a great time at Cedar Point and in Cleveland. The girls especially loved seeing Uncle Matthew and Davie, Trinity the dog, and Shirley the guinea pig.
I lost two lifelong (since 2nd grade)school friends on Saturday - Kathy had various cancers for the past 15 years, and LaVerne had colon cancer for 6 years. Both were 59. I am grieving the loss of these two lovely women and wish I could be at the funerals in MN on Wednesday.

Right now There is no immediate fear of death with my parents or inlaws. It’s my cousin Bob who we don’t know how much longer he has ( he is my first cousin and only 10 months older than me)! We hope to celebrate his 60th in July but he is failing fast!!

After I signed out last time I recalled that after a stroke heightened emotions are very common. The part of the brain that controls emotions may be affected too. Sometimes emotional judgement is questionable too. After his stroke my dad confessed that he had gone out to dance(without my mother) when my sister and I were little. Due to a miscommunication with Bill i ended up not being able to go to the cooking class. Next time I guess.

Carol So sorry about your friends and how awful to have doubled up that way. I imagine that they had several mutual friends.

I attended 1st through 12th grade in the same small school, with the same group of classmates (with the addition of country school and Catholic school kids after 6th grade) all those years. We were 120 graduates, and yes, mutual friends abound. It is amazing that so many of us have kept in close touch to this day. I wonder if this is typical, or rather unusual?

I have only one HS friend and One College friend that I’m really close to. My other friendships (the majority of my friends) developed after the boys were born and have lasted twenty to thirty years. One HS friend I really didn’t become close with until our 40th reunion. Now we get together once a month.
