Yoohoo Raquel!

Monday, April 30th, 2007

No word from her yet, so I left another message. Maybe she’ll call each of us directly re: CC on the 5th!

Late flight Maureen - did you have weather delays? Glad you are coming to the program tomorrow night. Sue said she was also.

How were all your movies Sue? If you ever want recommendations on some more excellent foreign films, I can give them to you. Especially Chinese ones.

Along with those of you who know the girl from NC on the cooking show, I have a dubious claim to fame. The IU student, Nicholas Richardson, who was arrested for selling all those fake ID’s in many states - he was in my 3’s preschool class 1988-89. When I saw him on the news, I immediately recognized him by his mischievous grin!

FILM FEST

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Went to Indy international film fest last night. A huge line up of a great variety
of films. A bought a ten/fer ticket and am having a challenging time limiting what
to see. Gimme Shelter actually had one of the Masyles who shot the film. He was
so interesting. I think he will be there today after Grey Gardens and his films
about Christo’s art installations are on Sunday and Wednesday. There are other
films today at Herron. I can’t decide this afternoon if I want to see Little
Red Flowers at 2:15 from China about a young child starting school or Beals of Grey
Gardens at 3:15(Maysles film about two eccentric relatives of Jackie O; Grey Gardens
is at 1:30 but I have already seen that.) Sunday afternoon I am going to FOUR movies.

Is anyone interested in joining me key cinemas(south side on Wednesday at 5:15)
for Love to share)? It is an Indonesian film. Three women and their responses to
polygamy in the world’s largest Muslim population. I love to see
movies which broaden my world view (in an entertaining way).

Film festival

goes all week. Tonight Bill and I are going to one about the Stones. One of the directors(one of the Maysles brothers) will be there. He flew in. Cool huh? WE are going to several others but haven’t figured out what. We went to the Keystone Mall cinema and they have detailed programs and descriptions of what is when and what the film is about. some of the shorts from last year won Oscar nominations. there is also a web site that lists things but I like paper copies(indyfilmfest)

Hoosier gets 15 min on Talk Show

Friday, April 27th, 2007

Maureen and Sue,
Do Kara or Rachael know Marry McNaught? She graduated with our kids. Bobby and she are like bother and sister. She is his friend who got married and devorced in seven months, After she graduated College. She is in the newspaper and will be on the Rachael Ray with Michael J. Fox. Carol or Kathy do you know the McNaught family? I am taping the show if anyone is interested but it’s exciting a NC grad will be on network TV.

Still waiting

I left a message last Friday and have not heard back from Raquel yet about CC at her house on the 3rd of May. I will try again at the end of this week.

What a beautiful day!

Dragging this out

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

Sue, Thanks again for leaving the bag of puppets on your porch! I picked them up after the Dr.s appointment. They are just what I need. First we couldn’t get an appointment for Elliott yesterday. We had a 9:30 today but the Dr. can’t do the out patient surgery, to yank out the kidney stone, until tomorrow. That means Elliott is missing at least three days of work and it’s messing up my week. I planned to take today off. I went back to work after the appointment and now I have to take some or all of tomorrow off, especially to drive Elliott home after the surgery and to be there for him. He is sooo cranky!! I know he can’t help it but it’s driving both of us nuts! I couldn’t wait to get back to work. Anything I say is wrong. Luckily he isn’t bent over in agony and can get up to get something to drink, eat, etc. He drove to the Dr. He really doesn’t feel much like eating. He tried pinapple and it came back up. He did manage to eat two pieces of toast, last night, and they stayed down.
Back to work.

Awful

Monday, April 16th, 2007

I was going to write a post today about the weather finally falling back into place, and how I hoped the plants and trees would rebound. Then I heard the news about the horrid things at Virginia Tech and I decided that how I felt about the weather wasn’t all that important by comparison. So many thoughts and prayers go out to everyone touched by this sadness.

My car estimate

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

I can’t believe I barely have any damage but it’s appraised at $800. I have $500 deductable, of Course. I was so worn out, from work, running around with the car accident, and filming my part of the summer reading DVD that I took a three hour nap, yesterday, my day off. I work till 5:00, today. Then Elliott and I are going to dinner and the Pike Performing Art Baseball Program with Dave Winfield! The other couple, we are going with, is on the Pike school board and have a ticket to see Dave Winfield after the program. Sue, I would still like to use the butterflies. Will you be home tomorrow? I’m going to the 3:30 Pacer game but I’ll call before I go and see if I can run over and borrow the butterflies! Thanks. Anyone hear from Raquel? I haven’t talked to her or Barb for a while. Is the next CC this Thursday? I have a Volunteer dinner, Thursday night, at the Colt’s complex. It’s for my Riley Volunteering. If CC is this Thursday I’ll try to come after the dinner. I haven’t checked on the web site, yet. Hope all of you are having a nice weekend.

Grapevine

Friday, April 13th, 2007

It seems that Washington Township Schools are taking their financial situation very seriously. The long term plan - the next 12 to 24 months - calls for them to close a middle school and 3 elementary schools. I can’t wait to read the version in the newspaper! And to see what actually happens.

Vacation great UNTIL….

Tuesday, April 10th, 2007

Judy and I really enjoyed St. Louis, even though it was very cold, until we left for home. Right outside of St. Louis, on I-70, we had a three car accident. Thank God it was only a Fender Bender but it’s a pain dealing with insurance agents, claims adjusters etc. We really enjoyed Union Station, the Hill ( Italian Food), the play Dirty Rotten Scoundrals and eating downtown. We also went to the Queen Gambling Casino. was a head one night and lost $40 the next so I only lost $20. it was too cold to go to the Zoo, gardens, etc but we still had a good time

Has anyone talked to her? Is she a grandmother yet?
I’m on the countdown to summer: 36.

nursing home costs

Friday, April 6th, 2007

One of my tax returns has room and board expenses from a full care nursing home. The nursing home has refused to breakout what part is medical and what part is room and board. They said it’s up to you, but they admitted that part was for medical.

Anyone have any experience or can estimate a percentage for me? The costs are about 4,000 per month.

Floppy Flowers

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

Sad isn’t it. Everything that was so bright and beautiful growing is now saggy and floppy. I hope things will bounce back, although I realize that certain blossoms won’t be back till next year. I did come and dig a few ferns Maureen, and got them transplanted. I think they will be fine.

Susan I may be a little late tonight, as I am going to Maundy Thursday service at church. Part of the service will be a drama about women in the Bible (Gloria wrote and is directing this) and it should be very good. All are welcome.
