Jinx Continues

Which one first?

Dave’s parents had $300. for magazine subscriptions on their charge which they had already paid before they told Dave they didn’t know what they were doing when they got them. (my words not theirs).

After Dave was unsuccessful in talking with the magazine subscription service I tried… confident of my powers of persuasion. Asking them to do the right thing and what if it were your grandmother speeches soon deteriorated to how can you live with yourself, how can you feel good about yourself (response: every time I take my paycheck to the bank, my husband and I made $65,000 last year).

From there it went to discovering her name was Ginger… I remarked that I have a dog named Ginger. I didn’t actually compare her to my dog or say what sex my dog is but I think she got the idea. Then to clarify her name I said, like Ginger the air head on Gilligan’s Island?

You laughing yet? I did call VISA and even though the charge has been paid they will put it in dispute. I then called the Magazine Processing Center which processed order from this company and asked what they would do when they are notified of the dispute. They said they just charge it back to the magazine company. So it sounds as if I saved my in-laws $300. VISA did say that there are more charges on the next bill already.

Too bad when I called Ginger back to let her know that I won she saw on caller id who it was and just picked up the phone and put me on hold.

Now … this morning when I rode the bus (2nd day this week and scheduled to ride on Thurs), the substitute bus driver asked me where to pick up this one wheel chair kid! The reason there was a sub was because the driver the other day ended up fainting at a stop. The aide that day called 911 and the bus load of kids had to wait for the ambulance and another bus driver. They were 30 minutes late to school.

Today we just drove through N. Willow looking for this kid before the sub called transportation to ask for the street name where the child lived. Then we were at Spring Mill and 91st St. when we received a radio call that we had skipped a stop. We turned right on to Spring Mill then right onto 86th and right onto Ditch and went back to Pickwick Place. We were only 30 minutes late.

Keep laughing … with only 2 children left on the bus this afternoon, the brake alarm went off! So we sat at the day care by Trader Joe’s for another bus to come!

So I get paid for 3 hours at $13 an hour instead of only 2 hours. Keep laughing!

Can’t wait till tomorrow!

Maureen is Famous!!

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

I showed Carol, the Pike Manager, our picture with Diane Stanley. She right away pointed to Maureen and said, who is she?? I know her. I said “her name is Maureen Jordan” Carol said “Doesn’t she have a daughter and a son?” I said yes. Maureen, I feel you leave a good impression everywhere you go!! Carol, I can’t wait to see the pictures, from Friday and Saturday, on our website.

The Butler CL Conference

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Sue, I also had a good time last night. I really enjoyed the conference, today! One thing, I could hear what the Authors said today. I really enjoyed Diane Stanley! She talked for about 45 minutes and showed slides of herself and her two daughters and son. She said she had a bad marriage but loves her children, writing and Illustrating. She uses Egg yock to illustrated her books. more than one of the othr authors mentioned Diane using Egg Yoks. It was amazing to them! I took some pictures of the other authors and anoth of Diane Stanley. Carol, I’ll download the pictures and send them to you, probably tomorrow. I’m really tired tonight. I went to sleep around midnight and woke up at 5:30 this morning.

CC goes to Central for Stanley

Got to get out more. Thanks all, that was fun. Kate and Maureen, we were discussing a possible Overnight at a State Park or some sort of lodge. Are you interested?

Yesterday

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

When I saw 27 dresses, yesterday, Barb met, Kim Judy and me. I told her about Friday so someone just needs to call Raquel. Barb was interested. Have all of you read Diane Stanley’s Conversation Club. I read it today and really liked it. I couldn’t remember if I read it when all of us got a copy several years ago. I didn’t remember the club in the book also met on Thursdays. I emailed the boys and told them I stil love them and sports but I’m enjoying emailing Jen about books, travel and movies besides sports. Bobby said I hope you still love us and sports or we would be in trouble LOL! KAthy, let us know about Friday. Maureen, I can’t remeber, are you plannig on going?

Diane Answers!

Dear Carol,

Thank you for writing to me. I am pleased that your conversation club is still rocking along after twenty years. Not only is it a compliment to me that you used my book title for your club, but how wonderful to have seven friends who have met together monthly for so long. Really, I can only imagine how it has enriched your lives. Now that you have progressed to the wine, next stop really has to be Conversation Club: Rome, Conversation Club: Paris, or even Conversation Club: Machu Picchu!

Sadly, I won’t be able to join you at your next meeting. I will still be in Santa Fe on the 24th. I will be traveling all day on the 25th to Indianapolis, have the Kids Ink event at the library that night. The next day I have the Butler Conference all day on the 26th, followed by a dinner, then depart for home early the 27th. The really fun part is, I leave again on the 28th for four days of speaking in Houston.

But keep it up, ladies! Life doesn’t get much better.

Best,

Diane Stanley

Well, there it is - I think she would have joined us if she could. I still want to go down and meet her next Friday at Central - CarolFay if you know your way in and out of the new library, I would be happy to pay for parking! We can discuss it here on the website, and finalize it at Kate’s next Thursday. I just thinks it’s pretty neat that she answered my email so promptly. I told her that after 22 years our format was pretty much the same, but we have added wine occasionally!

This is pretty exciting: click here, and scroll down to Diane Stanley http://imcpl.org/events/featuredevents.html

That’s our namesake’s author!! I think it would really be fun to go down to Central library for the event on Friday the 25th. I also emailed her and told her she was welcome at CC on the 24th if she is here that day, so who knows, maybe we will have a special guest!

This weekend

Thursday, January 17th, 2008

This will be another boring, dull, weekend, LOL!! Tomorrow night I go to Dancing with the Stars. Saturday I plan to see a couple of movies with Judy. She is having the Carpol Tunnel surgery on Tuesday so she will be homebound for a few days. Saturday night is Pike Performing Arts Tap Dancing. Believe it or not I have no plans for Sunday and I’m off Monday. I just saw Bucket List, Tuesday night, and rally liked it. Did I tell you I got Elliott to go see the Great Debaters, with me?? We both thought it was excellent! Matt called, from Pittsburgh, to get a movie suggestion from old MOM but my cell was off. Jen and he went to se I Am Legend and he didn’t like it! He wanted a comedy. I would have suggested National Treasure. I haven’t seen the second but I enjoyed the first and people who have seen the second like it! I know we shouldn’t talk politics but are you following the primaries? I like Edwards but I also would love to have a woman prsident. I’m just not sure if I want it to be Hillary!! What is your opinion?? What are your weekend plans?

good weekend

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Even though the Colts lost, I had a good weekend. I worked Saturday and had a great day helping patrons find books and materials. I got my Head Start materials ready for Tuesday and did my monthly report, that I turn in to the manager). When I got home I told Elliott I got a small raise and wanted to celebrate by going to a movie! believe it or not he agreed to see the Great Debaters!! We both enjoyed it! I was soo excited I had to call both boys to tell them I got their Dad to go to a movie!!!( little things thrill me LOL) Matt called, last night from Pittsburgh, and left a message saying Jen and he were going to a movie and wanted a suggestion from his Mom, the movie expert. By the time I got the message it was too late. The only negative part of the weekend was we went to a funeral, ( a friend of my mother-in-law). We took Elsie to the cemetary and she wouldn’t stop nagging Elliott about not wearing a warn enough coat. He finally couldn’t take and yelled back at her to leave him alone!! He was mad when he got home but got over it! We had dinner at Arnies and when I got home I watched the Golden Globes announcements. it’s too bad They couldn’t show the stars and their outfits or hear the winner’s speeches but it did go alot faster.

No Surprise

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

In talking with Rachel today I learned that she and Sean have decided to “take a break”. I think Rachel has gotten tired of him not being able to make a commitment. I hate to be around when his parents find out. I guess this is the step before breaking up or getting back together.

Beware

Saturday, January 12th, 2008

Imagine my embarrassment when my Visa card was denied for my grocery order! Of course I only carry 1 charge card with me in case my wallet is ever stolen. They put my groceries in the cooler while I went home.

Turns out that Visa froze our card after someone scanned the card at a casino in Atlantic City 2 days ago. The person tried to charge $2,000 to it. They denied that charge and then froze the account. It would have been nice if they had told us.

I had no idea that you (well, maybe not you) could actually make cards.

Now if only I could find the other customers and check out clerk so I can tell them I really didn’t over extend my card!

next CC

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

Okay, I’m changing it to Jan. 24 so Carol Fay can attend. Please RSVP. I’ll call Barb and Raquel. It works better for me anyway.

Dennis Shaul

Monday, January 7th, 2008

Bobby had Mr. Shaul in Band. We all liked him. Kitzi, the North View Special Ed teacher (one of my movie friends) said Dennis Shaul had Bariatric Surgery. When she last saw him she said his eyes were bugging out of his head from the surgery a weight loss. She went to the viewing, yesterday. I’m not sure if she is able to go to the funeral today. I’ll email and see if she has any more news about Mr. Shaul.

Sorry about last night

Friday, January 4th, 2008

After I got home, fixed Bobby soup gave him Gatorade and made him a pizza, I was exhausted and it was 10:00. What did I miss? Like I said, in the comment, I can have the next CC on the 24th. Do you think we could go to the Villa? I woke up and made Bobby lunch and I’m already tired ( I also went to bed at midnight) I know, he can make his own lunch, pizza, etc but remember I’m a Jewish Mom!Do let me know if I missed anything Juicy, especially if you were talking about ME.LOL

Something New for the New Year?

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Two ideas … This Thursday at The Villa Inn Restaurant & Spa at 1456 N. Delaware St. you can sample 3 wines and receive a chair massage. It is free. The hours are 5:30 to 6:30. We could go before Sue’s. Is anyone interested?

Then we could also have a guest speaker come to our CC…. who ever is hostess that week would invite their husband to give a brief presentation on what he does at work or an area of interest or hobby.

Also in the paper this morning Twigs & Sprigs Tea Room at the Historic Stream Cliff Herb Farm. Isn’t that where we had our outing? It is on the to do list for this food editor. So Carol … to do lists aren’t all that bad!

Starting another one

Tuesday, January 1st, 2008

Since I was # ten I am starting another post. I, like Maureen, would like to see a picture of the new John. I have pictures of Jenifer. I went to the last Colts regular season game at the RCA Dome. It was too bad they lost but Vicki and I were happy the gave Sorgi a chance to play and took out most of the starters!! I forgot to mention that we saw the first BSU mens basketball win, for this season, today. This is a brand new coach and he got rid of a lot of the players from the previous coach( It tell you more about him at the next CC). so he started out with only nine players. More later. It’s 1:00AM and I’m tired. Again A Happy Healthy New Year and Tell me how you celebrated New Years Eve!
