News of Charlie

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

On the website (www.caringbridge.org) Charlie’s girlfriend,Laurie, has posted that they have made the difficult decision to go with hospice. It sounds as if making the actual decision was difficult but they are thankful for what hospice can provide. They are also asking for pictures and stories of Charlie so that they can continue to laugh and remember the good times.

If you go to the site type in Chud instead of Charlie to get to the journal page for him.

Dr. Appointment

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Even though I didn’t feel well I enjoyed being with all of you last night! I have a sinus infection so Im’ taking an antibiotic and Mucinex for the congestion (Sue, I can’t take Mucinex D! It has sudefed that wires me and then I can’t sleep! The Dr. and I talked about it) I took half a day off today since they need coverage from 5-9 and I’m staying home tomorrow. I’ve been drinking soup and tea and feel a little bit better. The pharmacist said it takes a few days for the antibiotic to start working. I hope none of you get sick. I have a busy weekend so I need tomorrow to rest!!

Warning!!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

I haven’t been feeling great, I’m pretty sure it’s allergies or a cold! The warning is I’ve been working but wiped out when I get home so I haven’t really cleaned my house. I’ve cleaned the bathroon and kitchen floors but I haven’t dusted! I didn’t want to cancel again so I’m warning you not to look at the dust!! I don’t go to work, tomorrow, until 1:00 so I have a 9:30 Dr. appointment. I’m congested and coughing but not sneezing and my nose isn’t running! I hoep to see all of you tonight. Elliott has a Pacer game. Let me know if you can’t come

Thanks for being Understanding

I had a great time at Menopause, the Musical. Kitzi won four tickets so there were four of us. When we got there the man at the ticket desk couldn’t find Kitzi’s name. It turned out the ladie put her name down as Tootsie instead of Kitzi so we had fun with that. We filled out a raffle, for a gift certificate for a day Spa. Diane Black, who was with us, won one of the $25 cirtificates. At the end of the show the actresses came out and talked to me. The one that played the Soap Star said to me ” Where do I know you from?” I told her Nora Library. She said ” That’s right, you were my Mother’s librarian!” She introduced me to the other three actresses and said “This is my Mother’s librarian. She helped her at the library!!” I felt like I was famous for an actress recognizing me, even if she is local!!

ATTENTION - ALL EARS!!

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

Just had a phone call from CarolFay who was en route to a Pacer’s game. She was offered a free ticket to Menopause the Musical tomorrow night, and is therefore postponing CC until next Wednesday, February 27. I told her I would post it here for her so the rest of you would know about the change yet tonight. (mine was the only phone # she had with her)

CarolFay, are you phoning Barb?

beautiful day

Sunday, February 17th, 2008

Yesterday we drove to Cincinatti. Our friend wanted to go out for lunch so we ate yummy Thai. Then Mike wanted to go to a favorite icecream parlor and of course we had to humor him. Morita and I went for a walk while the boys watched basketball and napped. In all a sweet, peaceful day all the more precious knowing Mike has only months left. I have tomorrow off but need to get some work done.

North Central News

Friday, February 15th, 2008

An email was sent today saying that Phil Linebacker who is or was a North Central teacher died suddenly after coming home from a workout. He was 56. Did anyone know him? I think I remembered the name right.

Valentine Celebrations

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

I went ahead and fell victim to the holiday spirit. I fixed a new pork recipe… the one in this weeks paper, poured wine, lit the candles, and put on quiet music. Then at 6:00pm I called and left a message on Dave’s answering machine that dinner was ready and I was eating without him. Two seconds later he pulled up the drive just as the timer went off. So it was a nice dinner after all.

Retirement plans abandoned

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

So I decide I check with the administration office about purchasing health insurance after I retire. Apparently the union rep did not have the whole story straight. I could retire from the state but to retire from PIKE (and thus be eligible to purchase health insurance for the next three years) I need to have worked ten years at PIKE. So now I hope to get approved for either job sharing or half time for next year. If that is a go I would be able to purchase health insurance and the township would pay the other half.
My feelings are indescribable.

Aloha Stadium

Sunday, February 10th, 2008

We are leaving for the Pro Bowl at the Aloha Stadium in a little while - taking a bus to avoid the parking issue, as I guess there is not an abundance of it. Steve is pretty excited, and I have to agree that it will be quite an experience. There isn’t a cloud in the sky right now, so I will say aloha for now and get started slathering on the sun screen!

All’s well that end’s well etc.

Thursday, February 7th, 2008

Made it to our destination on Tuesday afternoon (around 9 pm Indy time) and have been enjoying every minute of the sun and sand. Had a sunset dinner the first night across the street at the Chart House (our favorite)which overlooks the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor. The warmth feels sooo good to these old bones, therapeutic for the body and soul for sure. There is quite a bit of Pro Bowl activity here along Waikiki and I would guess we will see a player or two around the beaches. I guess there is to be a “signing” at the Hilton today, and we hang out on the beach in front of that hotel most days.

More later…aloha for now.

Last weekend

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Saturday, Elliott and I enjoyed our lunch with Jen and Matt!! Jen shared her pictures from Pakistan, with me. There were guards and it reminded me a little of Bobby’s trip to Israel. She told me she went with her Church ( It the Church of Christ) to teach the children Bible Stories. Also her church bought two sewing machines for the women to use to set up a shop to make some money and be independent! Jen showed me pictures of her wearing the head covering she had to wear. Saturday night I enjoyed eating dinner with Donna and going to the Pacer game with her. Sunday I saw Atonement and really enjoyed it! It was sad but a very good story and good acting. Elliott and I went out for dinner, with Neil and Dora, to MCL. We got home in time for half time and the end of the Super Bowl. We were thrilled about Eli and the Giants beating the Patriots.

MOVING UP…

Monday, February 4th, 2008

and I do mean up. We moved Rachel into her apartment. It was up 50 steps. There would be about 6 steps then a 5 foot walk up the hill then another set of steps and another up hill walk etc. But I must say it was worth it. It is almost like having a house. She has a front porch entrance. The inside has light wood floors and 2 of the walls in the living room are almost all windows with a view of the Ohio River and downtown. It almost looks like an artist studio with all the light. In fact I bought 2 large canvas paintings at Marsh (you can imagine what they cost!) that will look great on the wall.

A friend from high school, Luke Field, who is still going to school in Cincy is going to take down some things for her this weekend when he is home (he has a truck). She didn’t tell him that he’ll be bringing a love seat hide a bed. And he doesn’t know about the 50 steps!

She is really excited about the apartment! Although it does have its quirks … the kitchen floor slants so we need to put 2 coasters under the table to level it off.

“Fogged In” or “Sharing Maureen’s Curse”

Monday, February 4th, 2008

We were supposed to be sipping Mai Tai’s on the beach right about now, but due to that tremendous fog today, all of our possible flights to Houston were cancelled this morning. We were at the airport from about 7:20 am until 3 pm before we finally got rebooked and retrieved our luggage. So we will try again tomorrow morning. :(

That’s my boy!

Friday, February 1st, 2008

On page B3 of today’s Star there is a big picture under the headline “Teamwork for the Troops” - the smiley little boy at the left is the student I tutor every week at Greenbriar!! His teacher is also in the photo, with her back to the camera. Pretty neat!
