WEEKEND

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

Saturday Dave and I took advantage of the Devour Downtown specials and ate at Scholars Inn for $30 a person. The presentation is always so nice at these expensive restaurants. Dave is meeting Rachel Sunday at Perfect North and spending the day skiing.

Enough for ya?

It sure is pretty outside - I got some beautiful snow photos this morning. Steve went to work, but he said he was about the only one in his department. Our neighborhood streets are plowed, but when he gets home we will be tackling our driveway. Luckily it’s tomorrow morning that he is flying up to Minnesota to help his folks celebrate their 6oth wedding anniversary as I have heard alot of flights were cancelled today.

Hope you all are enjoying your SNOW DAY!!!

Where’s the snow??

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

I went to see Revolutionary Road, last night, at Landmark, and fully expected to see snow when Judy and I came out of the movie. You are probably thinking, BITE YOUR TONGUE !! LOL!! I work tonight, until 9:00 and hope either it comes real early so we can close early or waits until I get home, if we get snow. You just never know. I filled out the Sheltie Rescue adoption form on line, this morning. It takes at least three weeks for them to process the form and then they come out to check your house to make sure it’s suitable for a Sheltie. I feel like I’m adopting a baby!
We are really getting busy with Tax questions and Black history book reports. This week We have time study and have to mark down what we are doing for the 840 minutes that is our 8 hour shift. It’s challenging! When it was slow, yesterday, like around 5:00, I did some weeding of picture books and shelving DVDs. There is always something to do at Pike.

I enjoyed Last night!

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

Ladies, I’m sorry Kate wasn’t with us, last night, but I really enjoyed CC! Maureen, you looked great! I’m happy you are doing so well. I sure wished Raquel could post the chocolate flan recipe. Carol, you tried but you just couldn’t convince Raquel or Barb to post on our Wed Site! It’s too bad. I can’t believe how fast the week flew by. I love 4 day work weeks and I’m even looking forward to working tomorrow. Sue I forgot to ask you where your Pacer seats, for tonight, are. I told Elliott and he said he will try to look for you. I usually visit him on the floor either before the game or at half time. Since I work till 6:00, I’ll have to see him at half time. You are welcome to come down at half time if you want.

CC at Raquel’s on Thursday

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

Just had a call from Raquel - she wants to have CC at her house on Thursday night the 22nd. She has talked to Barb and it’s ok with her. Raquel was sick with a cold last week and still has a touch of laryngitis, so she didn’t want to talk more than she has to right now.

I was able to watch quite a bit of the ceremonies today - what a fantastic day. I can’t wait to see some of the balls tonight. At one point I thought I saw Amy in a red stocking hat???? My favorite moment was seeing little Malia giving her daddy the thumbs up sign right after his speech. I wonder what those girls will grow up to be…

A New Week

Sunday, January 18th, 2009

I saw Raquel at church … she had wanted to join us at Starbucks but was sick. She still is getting over the last of laryngitis. She said there were several days when she couldn’t talk. I did tell her about CC this week and she plans to come … not that this information will do Barb any good!

I’ll have to write this day in my journal… I can’t remember the last time that Kevin and Rachel were home at the same time. We actually sat down for Sunday breakfast together. He has amazing pictures of his trip.

I am getting tired of torturing myself. I need to keep raising my shoulder and my arm to stretch the skin or whatever. It isn’t pleasant. Other than that things are going well.

A neighbor loaned us the DVD of John Adams that was on HBO or something. It was interesting …especially one of the scenes towards the end when their adult daughter underwent a mastectomy with just a glass of whiskey (or whatever) and a stick between her teeth. I am sure the neighbors had forgotten that scene when they lent it to us.

CarolFay… I don’t think we will ever get another dog. We still miss having Ginger around and notice her absence all the time but we also appreciate the freedom it gives us. I can’t not imagine what it would be like trying to walk her right now. I am sure some dog from the Humane Shelter will appreciate a home though.

Just not necessary

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

I thought this morning’s temperature of around -13 degrees in Indy was sufficiently cold. But up home in Minnesota they had -38 degrees. There’s just no sense in that!! My younger sister Barbara said that Rochester schools even closed today and that is unheard of - not directly due to the frigid weather, but rather that the school buses wouldn’t start due to some new kind of gel fuel they are using! I bet the school kids are sure glad for the new fuel!!!

Makes me think of my growing up in the frozen north. We moved from the country into town when I was in 3rd grade, and had to walk to school every day no matter the weather. Pants under our skirts, double mittens, scarves across our faces etc. But there were a few times over the years when it was sooooo cold that my dad would come back from work and drive us to school. I must remember to thank him again for that!

I want to go home!

Wednesday, January 14th, 2009

It’s very slow, here at work, be cause of the snow. I didn’t have either story time, today. Nobody came with their toddlers, imagine that! There are still plenty of brave souls who come in to use the computer. I was going to go to the Pacer game, but with the weather and the trouble with my license ( details at CC) I’m just going home. I only have one more day of work and then I have a four day weekend! I can’t wait!! Maureen, I hope you are staying in with this cold and snow.

New post to avoid breaking rule of 10

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

It is interesting how many unspoken rules (and written ones too) we have. We talked to John for a half hour today. He sent an email with pictures of the cookie platter his girlfriend and mom made. Quite impressive. He was at work until midnight last night and from 3 to ??? today. monster.com opened a new web site and it basically was all hands on board while fixes are being made. The good news is that he gets comp time for the days. He will be home at the end of March for almost two weeks.

I went to work today for six hours and barely made a dent in the paper work. No wonder I want to retire. Theoretically I can do paperwork at home but somehow it doesn’t happen. My ear is feeling better so I go back to work tomorrow.

Maureen let us know when you are ready for brief visits. Don’t let anyone stay past your nap time. I remember when bill was in the hospital we had to shoo people out the day while he was falling asleep.

Good News!!

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

OK Ladies - here’s the news at last! First, Maureen’s pre-surgery post:

I am typing this ahead of time and saving it in “drafts” to make it easier for Dave to send out later. Okay … stop laughing.

My surgery went fine… 2009 can only get better!

Will you post it on CC? and call Barb?

Thank you for your prayers. Include Dave in them … that God guides him in saying and doing the “right” things to help me heal emotionally…and for me to be patient, cooperative, and positive during my recovery!

Maureen

………………..

Then, here is what Dave added to it tonight:

I am leaving Maureen’s pre-typed message above, just to let you know how prepared Maureen was for her surgery. Her surgery, in fact, did go very smoothly. They did remove one lymph node, which was clean, so regardless of the pathology on the tissue they removed, there shouldn’t be any additional issues to contend with. As you might imagine, Maureen is amazing (and entertaining) the hospital staff with her spirits and rapid recovery. Unless something unusual happens this evening, she should be discharged in the morning.

Dave

I will call Barb and Raquel with this update. Sure was happy to hear all went as planned!!

No news

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Haven’t heard anything from Maureen yet - I think I will phone their house later on tonight unless I get a call or email from Dave before around 9.

Way over ten

Tuesday, January 6th, 2009

I’m starting another. I can call Barb about tomorrow night, from work, tonight. I don’t have Raquel’s number. Can someone call her about tomorrow night? I just left Barb a phone message. I told her I’ll talk to her after 9:00 tonight. Carol, I think that was a great suggestion. I remember the night before my thyroid surgery, 24 years ago, was longest night in the hospital and I remember talking to you helped!!
