For the Grandma Name Debate

Lori Borgman’s column on line had an article about her becoming a first time grandma and what should she be called. www.loriborgman.com

There was a large number of people in attendance at Debbie’s funeral even with it being a week day. Jeff, her son, teaches at Roncolli - his whole girls softball team was there. In the eulogy he said he never wanted to do anything to get her upset while she was alive and now that she is in heaven he’s really afraid to do anything to upset her. He had several funny lines.

I meant to ask you on the phone tonight if you went to the funeral - I’m sure some tears fell.

The Great “Grandma Name” Debate!! I will have to read Lori’s column. We had a big discussion in my devotions group on this subject! When I was in Minnesota I asked everyone I could if they knew of any names used other than Grandma and Grandpa. Not a single variation! I am convinced that it is less a northern thing than a southern thing.

Maureen has thought about the seating at her funeral. Fortunately we are seated together but our husband’s sit at a separate table.

re: names maybe an ethnic thing. Oma was one name I remember from childhood but can’t tell you which language it was from. I had Danish and Polish grandmas and we just called them grandma plus the last name unless you were with them then it was just grandma.

After over dosing on my migraine medicine with no results and not being able to get rid of an aching shoulder I went to a massage therapist this afternoon. If anyone is interested … she lives in the neighborhood across from Fox Hill School. She gave up being a lawyer to do this, has a daughter in wind ensemble at NC and one in DePauw (?) in Chicago. She also had breast cancer a few years ago - 3 lumpectomies, chemo and radiation. Dave knows her from when they both worked at the city. A little more expensive than the $25 place but I would still recommend her.

I am holding the weather man to his promise of nice weather Thursday - Saturday!

Yes we could do with some good weather. Tonight I went out and dabbled. Pulled a weed here and broke down some dried brush there and basically I am the only one who could tell that I did anything.

Maureen, the flowers I gave you are celadine poppies. I visited a friend who has them and wood poppies. Wood poppies are much shorter.

After two days on Restatsis I still can’t tell any difference with my eyes. I have another appointment in a few weeks. I told the doctor my eyes felt better when I was outside and he said that is because it’s more humid out.

I wouldn’t imagine that any medication would take effect in two days. I guess you can always move to a more humid climate.
